MeeGo, det mobila operativsystemet som ursprungligen startades av Nokia och Intel men nu för tiden drivs av the Linux Foundation, ser ut att dyka upp på nya mobiltelefoner redan i år.
Det är det finska företaget Jolla Ltd. som via Twitter meddelade att man avser att ta fram MeeGo-telefoner som ska släppas på marknaden redan i år. Jolla består till stor del av före detta Nokia-anställda var av några var inblandade i utvecklingen av MeeGo. Till The Verge säger man:
Nokia created something wonderful – the world’s best smartphone product. It deserves to be continued, and we will do that together with all the bright and gifted people contributing to the MeeGo success story.
Together with international investors and partners, Jolla Ltd. will design, develop and sell new MeeGo based smartphones. The Jolla team consists of a substantial number of MeeGo’s core engineers and directors, and is aggressively hiring the top MeeGo talent to contribute to the next generation smartphone production.
MeeGo 1.2 användes bland annat i Nokia N9 och N950 som släpptes på marknaden förra året.
