Världens andra största smartphonetillverkare, Xiaomi, kommer att bilda ett elbilsföretag. Man har formellt registrerat detta som Xiaomi EV Company Limited och fokus ska ligga på smarta eldrivna fordon. Xiaomis grundare och globale vd Lei Jun är huvudansvarig även i detta och det kommer att bli det sista stora entreprenörsprojektet han genomför. Koncernen har för avsikt att investera runt tio miljarder dollar i verksamheten under de kommande tio åren. Elektroniktillverkaren Xiaomi har formellt registrerat bolaget Xiaomi EV Company Limited, ett företag som ska fokusera på smarta elektriska fordon, berättar företaget i ett pressmeddelande. Kapitalet är på 10 miljarder yuán, vilket motsvarar 13,3 miljarder kronor, och Xiaomis grundare och globale vd Lei Jun är huvudansvarig även i dotterbolaget.
Xiaomi presenterade företagets plan för att bli en global aktör inom elektriska fordon i slutet av mars 2021.
”Detta kommer att bli det sista stora entreprenörsprojektet jag genomför. Jag är beredd att satsa allt”, sade Lei Jun i samband med offentliggörandet. Han berättade också att koncernen har för avsikt att investera uppskattningsvis tio miljarder dollar i verksamheten under de kommande tio åren. När Xiaomi gick ut i en rekryteringskampanj för satsningen under sommaren, fick man fler än 20 000 ansökningar. Företaget uppger att omkring 300 anställda arbetar i företaget i inledningsfasen, men att man också arbetar nära koncernens fler än 16 000 ingengörer och utvecklare. Den 25 augusti offentliggjordes också att Xiaomi förvärvat Deepmotion Tech, en utvecklare av lösningar för autonoma fordon.
Under 2021 har Xiaomis kraftiga tillväxt och vinst fortsatt att öka, och under juni månad var man för första gången den största smartphonetillverkaren i världen, enligt marknadsanalysföretaget Counterpoint.

The total revenue and the adjusted net profit both reached record highs in the quarter.
