EU vill veta hur Meta hanterar kriget mellan Israel och Hamas

EU-kommissionären Thierry Breton har skickat ett öppet brev till Metas VD Mark Zuckerberg där han ger Zuckerberg 24 timmar på sig att svara på hur Meta hanterar olaglig och felaktig information som sprids om kriget mellan Israel och Hamas.

Bretons öppna brev till Zuckerberg kommer kort efter att Breton skickade ett liknande brev till X och dess ägare Elon Musk. I brevet till Zuckerberg skriver Breton bland annat:

"In light of a number of serious recent developments, let me recall the precise obligations regarding content moderation under the EU Digital Services Act. Firstly, following the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel, we are seeing a surge of illegal content and disinformation being disseminated in the EU via certain platforms.
I would ask you to be very vigilant to ensure strict compliance with the DSA rules on terms of service, on the requirement of timely, diligent and objective action following notices of illegal content in the EU, and on the need for proportionate and effective mitigation measures. I urgently invite you to ensure that your systems are effective."

Meta eller Zuckerberg har än så länge inte svarat EU eller Breton direkt men en talesperson för företaget säger till CNBC:

"After the terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel on Saturday, we quickly established a special operations center staffed with experts, including fluent Hebrew and Arabic speakers, to closely monitor and respond to this rapidly evolving situation. Our teams are working around the clock to keep our platforms safe, take action on content that violates our policies or local law, and coordinate with third-party fact checkers in the region to limit the spread of misinformation. We’ll continue this work as this conflict unfolds."
