I ett internt memo till de anställda på X, tjänsten som fram tills igår hette Twitter, skriver företagets vd Linda Yaccarino att det framöver är tänkt att man ska kunna sköta betalningar och bankaffärer via tjänsten. I memo skriver Yaccarino bland annat:

"The best news is we’re well underway. Everyone should be proud of the pace of innovation over the last nine months — from long form content, to creator monetization, and tremendous advancements in brand safety protections. Our usage is at an all time high and we’ll continue to delight our entire community with new experiences in audio, video, messaging, payments, banking — creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities."

Även X ägare Elon Musk nämner att tjänsten framöver ska pyssla med bankgrejer i en tweet där han försvarar namnbytet från Twitter till X. Musk skriver där:

"The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video.

In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world. The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird."

Musk har tidigare snackat om att göra om Twitter (X) till en superapp liknande kinesiska WeChat. Skulle Musk kunna övertyga Twitters användare att börja sköta sin ekonomi via X skulle det antagligen vara ett bra steg på vägen för att senare även introducera e-handel och andra tjänster i X. Huruvida X:s användare är sugna på att lägga mer än sitt dagliga tjattrande i Elon Musks app återstår att se.
