Apple Intelligence kommer inte till EU

Apple har meddelat att Apple Intelligence och två andra funktioner som Apple nyligen presenterade till sina operativsystem inte kommer att lanseras i EU i år. Förutom Apple Intelligence handlar det om förbättringar i SharePlay samt funktionen som gör det möjligt att spegla en iPhone till macOS, som inte kommer att bli tillgängliga för Apple-användare i EU.

Apple uppger att anledningen till att funktionerna inte kommer till EU:s marknader beror på EU-lagen "Digital Markets Act" (DMA). Den kräver bland annat att tredjeparts-tjänster ska kunna fungera tillsammans med tjänster och produkter från Apple och andra techjättar. Apple skriver i ett uttalande att man är oroliga för att det skulle kunna drabba Apple-användares integritet och datasäkerhet.

I uttalandet, som skickats till flera medier och som går att läsa i sin helhet nedan, skriver Apple vidare att man hoppas kunna hitta en lösning i samarbete med EU som gör att man längre fram kan släppa Apple Intelligence och de andra funktionerna till Apple-användare i EU.

"Two weeks ago, Apple unveiled hundreds of new features that we are excited to bring to our users around the world. We are highly motivated to make these technologies accessible to all users. However, due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this year.

Specifically, we are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security. We are committed to collaborating with the European Commission in an attempt to find a solution that would enable us to deliver these features to our EU customers without compromising their safety."
