I samband med CES-mässan presenterade HTC en ny version av Vive med lite högre upplösning och annan design. Vive Pro, som den nya versionen heter, har samma minimispecs som föregångaren, men VentureBeat tog ett snack J.B. McRee, marknadschef för HTC Vive, som berättade att minimispecsen och de rekommenderade specsen är två helt skilda saker. De rekommenderade specifikationerna har inte släppts än, men kraven för en optimal upplevelse verkar komma att höjas.

J.B. McRee fick frågan om användare som fyller minimum-kraven kommer få någon bättre upplevelse med Vive Pro varpå han svarade med detta:
– It’s hard to say since each piece of content has different requirements. Let’s say you have a game with three graphical settings, if you were minimum spec using the Pro then you might need to run the game on a lower overall setting because it’s higher resolution and you’re requesting more horsepower from the computer. A large bulk of the devs here at CES have gone through and optimized things to run well on the Pro. … It’s a higher performance headset, so it will require a better machine. The people that we are currently marketing this product to, the most demanding consumers and enterprise customers, are not the type of people that have a minimum spec PC and they’re not the type of people that would feel uncomfortable upgrading to a higher end GPU if that’s what’s needed to get the type of experience that they want.
