Blue Origin to build lunar lander for NASA
Astronauts to land on the moon in 2029
NASA announced on Friday that Jeff Bezos' space company Blue Origin has been tasked with building a lunar lander for their future moon mission Artemis 5.Artemis 5 is planned for September 2029 and will land two astronauts on the surface of the moon. The mission will include a total of four astronauts who will leave Earth in an SLS rocket and dock with the future Gateway space station in orbit around the moon. From there, two astronauts will use Blue Origin's lunar lander to land on the moon.NASA will contribute $3.4 billion to build Blue Origin's lunar lander, while Blue Origin themselves will invest even more in the project. Blue Origin will also enlist the help of their partners Lockheed Martin, Draper, Boeing, Astrobotic, and Honeybee Robotics to build the lander.It has already been announced that SpaceX will also land astronauts on the moon.
