CS: GO used to bypass Russian censorship
Smart trick from finnish newspaper
Yesterday was World Press Freedom Day and the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat revealed that they had used the popular game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in an attempt to bypass Russian censorship and spread information about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. To spread information about the war in Ukraine, Helsingin Sanomat developed the map "de_voyna" for CS:GO, which contained a secret room where players could access information about the war, both in Russian and English. In the secret room, players could, among other things, learn about various news events from the war, including the massacre in Bucha and the fact that over 70,000 Russians are estimated to have died in the fighting.Above is a clip from the secret room on the CS:GO map de_voyna. If you would like to play the map yourself, it can be found here for now. Whether it will be allowed to remain now that it is known to have been used to circumvent Russian censorship remains to be seen.
