Dwayne Johnson to star in new Fast & Furious spinoff

Bridge between Fast X and Fast X Part II

Film studio Universal is expanding its Fast & Furious universe with another spinoff from the franchise. This time, it will focus on Dwayne Johnson's character, Luke Hobbs, as the lead.

Johnson has already starred in the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, where he played opposite Jason Statham. The upcoming Hobbs film will serve as a bridge between the events of Fast X, which recently premiered, and Fast X Part II, set to premiere in 2025.

Johnson himself announced the news of the upcoming Hobbs film on Twitter, writing:

"The next Fast & Furious film you’ll see the legendary lawman in will be the HOBBS movie that will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for FASTX: Part II
Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve - and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love."

The release date for the as-yet-untitled film starring Dwayne Johnson/Luke Hobbs is currently unknown.
