The Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) has announced in a press release that they have developed a battery whose components are entirely made of edible materials, making it safe to swallow. The edible battery is made of ingredients such as beeswax and water. It has a strength of 0.65V and can deliver 48 microamperes for approximately 12 minutes. The researchers state in the press release that the battery could, for example, power an LED light for a short period. If the batteries were to be developed further and last a bit longer, they could also be used in children's toys and health devices such as biosensors, robots that deliver medicine inside the body, and similar applications.
