Introducing the new Mercedes E-Class Estate
The plug-in hybrid goes 100 kilometers on electric power
Two months ago, Mercedes rolled out the new E-Class sedan. Now it's time for the estate version to make its entrance, and this is what it looks like. The wheelbase has increased by 22 millimeters, which should provide a bit more space in the back seat, but the sloping roofline means that the trunk capacity has decreased from 640 to 615 liters. If you fold down the back seat, it should fit 1830 liters, which is ten liters more than before. If you buy the plug-in hybrid, you now won't have a bulge where the battery pack is located, and the one available in Europe at first is called the E300e. It comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 204 horsepower, paired with a 129-horsepower electric motor that is integrated into the nine-speed automatic transmission. The total power output is stated as 312 horsepower, and it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The battery pack has a capacity of 25.4 kWh, and it can run on electric power alone for up to 100 kilometers. Of course, there will be more engine options available.Sales will start in the fall. Unfortunately, we haven't received any pricing information yet.
