Japan aims to beam solar energy from space by 2025

Japanese researchers have been working for over a decade to develop technology that would make it possible to collect solar energy from space-based solar panels and beam it down to Earth. Now, it seems that this could soon become a reality.The Japanese news agency Nikkei reports that Japan's space agency JAXA, in partnership with universities and Japanese companies, aims to launch both solar panels and satellites that can beam down the collected solar energy to Earth by 2025. The advantage of space-based solar panels is that they could receive solar energy around the clock and would not be hindered by clouds or weather conditions that can occur here on Earth.The United States, China, and Europe are also interested in developing solutions for generating solar energy from space, something we have written a bit more about in some of the linked articles below.
