Land Rover Classic releases new Defender
Not cheap
The old Land Rover Defender refuses to die. In 2016 the manufacturer phased out the model, but it simply refuses to let go. Now Land Rover Classic has unveiled Defender Works V8 Islay Edition and only 30 units will be produced. Works-V8s manufactured between 2012 and 2016 were used to create a new version of the old car. It is available in both the short 90 version and the long 110 version with room for up to seven people. However, it won't come cheap. The short version starts at £230,000, while the long version costs £245,000. For your money you get a large 5.0-liter engine that produces 405 horsepower and 515 Newton-meters coupled with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The car is said to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 177 km/h. Updated springs and dampers help with handling and there is also a Handling Upgrade Kit that provides even sharper brakes, pads, and calipers. The inspiration for the build comes from the early prototypes of the Defender that were tested on the Isle of Islay, Scotland, in the late 1940s. A matching whisky has also been created for the car. Only 639 bottles will be released and you can serve the drink on small tables in the car that are made from old whisky barrels from the distillery.
