Meta develops Twitter competitor
Will be a part of Instagram?
It seems like Meta is eager to start competing with Twitter, and now some more information has leaked about how they might do it.Lia Haberman, who writes the newsletter ICIMY, has obtained a leaked presentation slide showing what looks like a Twitter-like service from Instagram. You can check out the leaked image above. Based on it, Instagram's service looks a lot like how Twitter looks today.According to Haberman's source, Instagram's "Twitter service" is currently codenamed "P92" and/or "Barcelona". Users will be able to log in with their Instagram account and make posts up to 500 characters long, including images and videos. The leak also mentions that the service will be compatible with the decentralized Twitter competitor Mastodon:"Soon, our app will be compatible with certain other apps like Mastodon. Users on these other apps will be able to search for, follow and interact with your profile and content if you’re public, or if you’re private and approve them as followers."Meta has not yet commented on the leak about a possible Twitter competitor linked to Instagram. However, in March, the company told Platformer about things they have on their agenda for the future:"We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests."
