Microsoft has announced that it will be discontinuing support for Cortana in Windows, the smart assistant that has been used for various tasks in Microsoft's operating system.Cortana was introduced by Microsoft in 2014 for the now-defunct Windows Phone, and was intended to compete with Apple's Siri assistant. Later, the voice-controlled assistant also appeared on Windows and other Microsoft applications. However, Microsoft is now focusing on AI-driven GPT-based assistants like Windows Copilot, which likely means that they do not see it as worthwhile to invest further resources in Cortana. At the end of the year, Microsoft will stop supporting Cortana on Windows. However, the assistant will still be available in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Teams display, and Teams rooms. It remains to be seen how long it will continue to be available in those applications.
