Porsche: Electric cars with super long range not far away
That would be great
Range is a big deal with electric cars, and until it's just as quick to charge an electric car as it is to fill up a fossil car, range will be a concern for those considering an electric car. Today there are many models that can go quite far, but wouldn't it be great if they could go even further? Porsche believes that within just a few years they will have electric cars that can go over 1300 kilometers on a single charge. And wouldn't that be sweet? To get there, the manufacturer believes that the anode in an electric car must be optimized. Currently graphite is used as the active anode material in their electric cars but they are currently developing the equivalent in silicon. Apparently, silicon anodes can store up to ten times more capacity and can also be fast-charged from 5-80 percent in under 15 minutes. However, the problem with these anodes is that they expand 300 percent when they absorb lithium, so it's best if the anodes only contain up to 80 percent silicon.Read more about Porsche's thoughts on the matter at the link below.
