Porsche unveils 718 Spyder RS

A Cayman GT4 RS convertible

If you want a Cayman GT4 RS but with the ability to take the roof off whenever you feel like it, this is the one to have - the 718 Spyder RS. This is the convertible version of its coupe sibling and it's a high-performance open-top sports car that comes with a small piece of fabric that can be fastened over the cabin in case of bad weather.

This will be the first time Porsche puts the 500 horsepower flat-six engine from the 911 GT3 into a mid-engine open-top model. To ensure proper breathing, there are additional air intakes located right next to the headrests which combined with the sport exhaust system should provide a pretty pleasant soundtrack when you step on it. The engine is a 4.0-liter unit with a redline of 9,000 rpm and 450 Newton-meters of torque. It's paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and can do 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. It takes 10.9 seconds to reach 200 km/h and the fun doesn't stop until 308 km/h. Unfortunately, there's no manual gearbox option. Compared to the 718 Spyder, the RS version weighs 40 kilos less. The entire roof and its structure weigh 18.3 kilos. If you want to further reduce weight you can opt for the Weissach package which gives you forged magnesium wheels and titanium tailpipes, but it's unclear how much weight these items save.
