Researchers develop AI that can read minds
New technology may enable speech for people with disabilities

Researchers at the University of Texas have developed an AI-based system that can read a person's thoughts and convert them into text. They call their system a "semantic decoder" and envision it being useful for people with disabilities that prevent them from speaking, such as after a stroke.For the system to work, it must first be trained with the person it is intended to be used on. In other words, it is not possible to read someone's thoughts who has not set up and trained the system. The semantic decoder then uses a transformation model to convert a person's thoughts into text.However, the system does not seem to be able to decode a person's thoughts literally, but rather gives an idea of the context a person is thinking about.
