Rivian removes Tank Turn feature
Concerns over people damaging roads
At the end of 2019, Rivian showcased their R1T model's ability to perform a "Tank Turn". This means that the car could spin on the spot and quickly turn around, if desired. This was possible because the car has a motor in each wheel. However, the feature is now being removed before any customer has even had the chance to use it, and the reason is said to be that it tears up so much of the ground when doing so that forest roads and the like can be destroyed. Only if people misuse the function, which Rivian seems to assume people will do. It may also have to do with the fact that the car can spin so much that many drivers could lose control, which is not ideal.
