Robotic dog Spot gains new features
Now able to open doors independently

Boston Dynamics has equipped its robot dog Spot with some new features that can make it more useful when it's out on inspection rounds in factories, mines, and other places where the robot is used.Spot has become better at navigating different types of indoor and outdoor environments. The robot has also been equipped with a new system that will alert people when it is approaching or present in the area where they work, something that will hopefully prevent Spot and humans from accidentally crossing paths.Perhaps the coolest new feature in Spot is that the robot can now open doors on its own. Previously, operators could manually open doors with the help of Spot's accompanying robot arm. Now, Spot can do this without any operator involvement, opening up further possibilities when Spot is out on autonomous inspection rounds. In the video below, you can check out Spot's new features and hear Boston Dynamics developers talk a little about them. If you just want to see what it looks like when Spot opens a door, you can skip ahead to around 12:10 in the video.
