Time to say goodbye to hard drives in gaming computers?
Games may increasingly require SSD drives
In a report, The Verge raises the question of whether it may soon be time to abandon traditional hard drives in gaming computers in favor of faster SSD drives. This is probably the right thing to do, as it seems that even game developers are starting to focus on developing games that require SSD drives. As an example, they mention Bethesda's upcoming game Starfield (pictured above), which requires a 125GB SSD drive to run on PC computers. Another example is that CD Projekt Red recommends an SSD drive for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty, an expansion that will not be released for the hard drive-equipped consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.For gamers who still use traditional hard drives in their computers, this is obviously a bit of disappointing news. However, for gamers in general, it can be positive as game developers seem to be focusing on developing games that can take advantage of a modern standard, something that is likely to make gaming experiences both more interesting and enjoyable.
