Six months ago, Lexus showcased technology where they had installed a manual gearbox in an electric car. It simulates gear shifts, has fake rev-matching, and gear sounds. Now we learn that this will become a reality in electric cars from the manufacturer starting in 2026. It is only then that the next generation of Toyota's electric cars will be introduced. According to Takero Kato, CEO of the new BEV Factory division, the goal is to provide customers with a wow experience. The cars will have a clutch pedal and gear lever just like any other manual car, and will even fake stalling if you don't give it gas when releasing the clutch to start rolling.
