US does not want AI to be able to launch nukes on its own Seems reasonable US does not want AI to be able to launch nukes on its own Foto: Gerd Altmann / Pixabay American politicians have presented a new bill that would make it illegal for artificial intelligence to launch nuclear weapons without human control. The bill is called the "Block Nuclear Launch by Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Act," and Senator Edward J. Markey, one of the politicians behind the bill, says:– As we live in an increasingly digital age, we need to ensure that humans hold the power alone to command, control, and launch nuclear weapons – not robots. That is why I am proud to introduce the Block Nuclear Launch by Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Act. We need to keep humans in the loop on making life or death decisions to use deadly force, especially for our most dangerous weapons. The bill will build on an existing policy for the US Department of Defense, which states that "the United States will maintain a human 'in the loop' for all actions critical to informing and executing decisions by the President to initiate and terminate nuclear weapon employment.""Block Nuclear Launch by Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Act" was developed by politicians from both American political parties, which likely means that the bill can pass a vote and become law without major issues. markey.senate.gov Cars, American politicians, ai, US Department of Defense Via arstechnica.com
