Twitter recently lost its "real" blue checkmarks, but there's no need to be upset because now Gmail has similar verification icons that actually mean something. The new blue checkmarks will help you determine if a sender is authentic or if they could be a scammer. That's why you now see a blue checkmark next to the name when you receive an email from a company that has verified its identity.

The checkmark is Google's latest implementation of the technology Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI). Google began testing BIMI in Gmail in 2020. Initially, it allowed brands enrolled in BIMI to include authenticated logos in their email messages.

When you hover over the blue checkmark in Gmail, you'll see a popup that says the sender of the email has verified that they own the domain the message was sent from and the logo in the profile picture.
