Volvo produces nine million cars in Torslanda
Time to rebuild the factory for electric cars
In 1964, Volvo Cars began manufacturing cars in Torslanda. The first car to roll off the assembly line was an Amazon wagon (pictured below). Now, they have reached a major milestone with a total of nine million cars produced here. However, production will be halted for a while as the factory undergoes a 10 billion kronor renovation. Once completed, only electric cars will be manufactured here. The site will feature a large aluminum megapress (Europe's largest) and a battery assembly plant. The ninth million car produced was a V60 plug-in hybrid. Recent models manufactured here include the V60, XC60, V90, and XC90. Previously, they also produced the P1800, 140, 240, 740, and 850.Bonus clip below.
