Windows now supports RAR files
Time to say goodbye to WinRAR?

Yesterday, Microsoft's developer conference Build kicked off and they revealed that Windows 11 will support opening more file formats used for compressing files. In a blog post, Windows product chief Panos Panay wrote:"We have added native support for additional archive formats, including tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and many others using the libarchive open-source project. You now can get improved performance of archive functionality during compression on Windows."This means that Windows 11 users will soon no longer need to install third-party applications to open compressed files and archives with files stored in the formats that Windows 11 now supports. It also likely means that applications like WinRAR, WinZip, OpenRAR, and others are probably facing a rather bleak future.
