Here are a few thoughts on why we have decided to post some aspects of the polar circle house here on Lotta's blog.

First, you should know that the basic idea here is not to show a completed project, but rather to share elements of an ongoing, living design process. For this reason, the images you see above may not look like other images you might have seen associated with contemporary architecture. This is because they are not made to impress clients or others; rather, they have been made during the normal, iterative and exploratory process of making architecture. In a way, they are more internal investigations rather than external publicity-related images...which is another use of images entirely....

Thus, for example, the first of the small images above is looking at what this type of form might do in relationship with the neighboring buildings (which have a very different form-language) and also in relation to the gentle slope that the site offers; there is no color in this image because it is essentially a study of form. And the second image is an exploration of the ceiling material in relationship to the exposed Limtra and concrete base; it is also one of a series of similar images looking at a number of solutions to the same problem. And so on...

So, this posting and the previous one on Feber about the house might be seen as a kind of test - what happens when this (normally private, internal design process) is (at least partially) shared? I am very curious as to what (constructive!) thoughts people might have about the project. And happy to share more thoughts on why the images above have been made should anyone be curious.

PS - to Bjerke -"Kreativia" - (if I understand your comment):

Though the house is not (by Swedish standards) "very" far North, I see several advantages to using this form-solution - among them are:

1/ the extraordinary strength of today's Limtra allows us to make a form which can collect snow on the roof of the building, meaning that the snow itself will provide us with increased insulation during the cold season;
2/ the form has an easier relationship with the mountain landforms visible from the site and the "softening" which occurs to all man-made objects when snow comes (I admit this is a subjective thought);
3/ the form (and especially its plan) will allow easy ventilation of the house during the summer and protection against the northern winds coming off the mountain behind the house...

Blir intressant att se om de får upp en prototyp någon gång. Det är alltid roligt med kreativa hus.
