Continental's tires with recycled materials in mass production
Available this summer
When a tire has served its purpose, it becomes a swing, that's an old tradition. But what are new tires made of? Continental is now releasing its UltraContact NXT tire, which consists of "renewable, recycled, or ISCC PLUS-certified material" to the extent of 65 percent. The renewable part of the tire is made from by-products of the wood and paper industry, as well as rice husks. Together with recycled materials, this makes up 37 percent of the tire. The remaining 28 percent is synthetic rubber and ISCC PLUS-certified carbon black. The Continental UltraContact NXT comes in a whopping 19 different sizes, so it's not just a special edition that will only exist in theory. We haven't yet obtained any pricing information, but the tire will go into mass production in July and will be available to customers by the end of the summer.
