Intel removes the i from processor names

Now it's Intel, Core, Ultra plus a number

Do you usually refer to a certain Intel processor as an "i-seven"? Well, you'll soon have to stop doing that. When the next generation of chips is released, they will be named either Intel, Intel Core, or Intel Core Ultra, followed by a number. Instead of Intel Core i7, it will be Intel Core 7 or Intel Core Ultra 7, where Ultra is reserved for the company's flagship chip.

The reason for this change is precisely because people say "i-seven" and not Intel Core 7 or Core 7. Intel simply wants to put more focus on Core rather than "i" and to avoid people saying they bought a "seven" instead of a Core 7. I'm skeptical if it will succeed here in Sweden.

The change will come with the next generation of chips, currently codenamed Meteor Lake. Another news is that they will not be referred to as the 14th generation chips.
