Waymos första dödsolycka
En bil från Waymo, Alphabets företag för självkörande bilar, ska för första gången ha varit inblandad i en dödsolycka. Det handlar om en olycka där en hund blev påkörd och avled i San Francisco.
Enligt den tekniska rapporten ska en av Waymos Jaguar I-Pace ha framförts i autonomt läge i en zon där hastighetsbegränsningen var 40 km/h. Hunden ska ha rusat ut i vägen mellan två bilar varpå bilen kolliderade med hunden. Bilens säkerhetschaufför ska inte ha hunnit se hunden innan olyckan skedde. Bilens system ska dock ha hunnit registrera hunden men tyvärr inte hunnit bromsa in så snabbt att olyckan kunde undvikas skriver TechCrunch.
Waymo skriver i ett uttalande efter olyckan:
"On May 21 in San Francisco, a small dog ran in front of one of our vehicles with an autonomous specialist present in the driver’s seat, and, unfortunately, contact was made. The investigation is ongoing, however the initial review confirmed that the system correctly identified the dog which ran out from behind a parked vehicle but was not able to avoid contact. We send our sincere condolences to the dog’s owner. The trust and safety of the communities we are in is the most important thing to us and we’re continuing to look into this on our end."
