Jeep har en modell som heter Cherokee. Den lanserades redan 1974 och namnet har man hämtat från den amerikanska urbefolkningen som ett sätt att hedra dem. Men detta är inget som uppskattas av befolkningen. Chuck Hoskin Jr. som är ledare för Cherokee Nation tycker inte alls att det är hedrande att deras namn används som ett säljargument av en bilmodell. Nu överväger det nystartade företaget Stellantis som äger Jeep att byta namn på modellen. Carlos Tavares som är vd säger följande:

"At this stage, I don’t know if there is a real problem. We are ready to go to any point, up to the point where we decide with the appropriate people and with no intermediaries."

Så här säger Chuck om saken:

"In 2021, the country is in a better position than they’ve been, say a generation ago, to think about what it means to use the names of Native peoples. Beyond just the Jeep issue, to depict our culture in the form of mascots or chants at football stadiums, I think the country’s in a better place to have a discussion about those and hopefully move away from those depictions and those name usages."
