COVID-19 har redan ställt till det ordentligt för mobilmässan Mobile World Congress, men har nu börjat påverka spelvärlden. Sony har tidigare meddelat att de inte kommer närvara på PAX East nästa vecka på grund av coronaviruset och nu meddelar gänget även att de kommer skippa Game Developers Conference som börjar i mitten av mars. Sony säger detta om saken:
“We felt this was the best option as the situation related to the virus and global travel restrictions are changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.”

Sony är inte de enda som skippar spelutvecklarmässan. Facebook Gaming och Oculus har meddelat att de kommer skippa mässan på grund av den höjda hälsorisken. Facebook och Oculus meddelar att de fortfarande kommer leverera nyheter i samband med mässan, men detta kommer ske online.

GDC själva meddelar att de kommer implementera fler hälso- och säkerhetsåtgärder för besökarna:
“We believe that, based on the strict U.S. quarantine around coronavirus and a large number of enhanced on-site measures, we are able to execute a safe and successful event for our community. Locally, the Department of Health for both the State of California and the City of San Francisco support the convening of public events. We are also continuing to follow the latest CDC and WHO guidance, following in the footsteps of other large international events that are taking place successfully at the Moscone Center.”
